To find this special boss battle, click on the tree to the northwest of the windmill in Rim Elm (the one Tetsu is usually beside). You can only start battling these after you have left Rim Elm for the first time. In other words, yes you can fight them with ONLY Vahn on the team. It is recommended to not try and attack them until some time after getting Gala, considering your level is likely to be too low and you will lose. However, it's not unheard of to defeat them with all three heroes only at level 11. It did take a long time and luck, though so it's recommended to wait until you're around at least level 15 to fight them.
When you get the Honey, either never talk to little Nene ever again or use the Honey. If you talk to Nene without using it, she'll steal it to make the ever famous "Elm Cake." What's the point of Elm Cake? Just to upset the player knowing they fought the Bees for nothing.
