Unlike most creature upgrades, the Mad Bird also has a difference in the eyes (making them look mad!). This is probably a sign that all the upgraded creatures are textured with different texture maps rather than just overlaid with a different color.
And no, the special attack is not called "bird poison" but rather the same old "fish poison." The one difference is that the Mad Bird does increase its agility with a move called "Power Up."
